Fall 2016 Class Offerings
We will be offering four adult Christian Education classes this fall. The descriptions are as follows:
This year, our children, youth and adults will have the opportunity to explore BELIEVE. This study is grounded in carefully selected Scripture designed to take us on a journey to think, act, and be more like Jesus. We will walk through the ten key beliefs of the Christian faith, the ten key practices of a Jesus-follower, and the ten key virtues that characterize someone who is becoming more like Jesus. We will be asking three important questions: What do I believe? What should I do? Who am I becoming? As we work through this study via sermons each Sunday, individual study and group discussion, one simple truth will become undeniably clear: What you believe drives everything!
The Life You’ve Always Wanted: Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary People
If you’re tired of the status quo- if you suspect there’s more to Christianity than what you’ve experienced- John Ortberg invites us to join him on a road to transformation and spiritual vigor that anyone can take. What does true spiritual life really look like? What keeps us from living such a life? How can we pursue it? Cultivate new intimacy and confidence in prayer. Discover the freedom of secrecy. Taste the benefits of slowing life’s frenetic pace. Learn how to be guided by the Holy Spirit. As in a marathon, the secret lives not in trying harder, but in training consistently. Proven by followers of Jesus over the centuries, the spiritual disciplines are exercises that strengthen your endurance race on the road of growth.
Hebrews: The Incomparable Christ
Jewish believers were torn between their new faith in Jesus and their old ways rooted in Old Testament routines and rituals. And they were tempted to go back to their familiar life that seemed good enough. But Hebrews shows us that salvation through Jesus is better. The letter to the Hebrews was written to show that you can’t go back to an earlier stage of God’s purposes but must press on eagerly to the one that is yet to come. Jesus, his effective ministry, and his ultimate sacrifice are the heart and focus of this book and Hebrews shows us that nothing, absolutely nothing, compares to our incomparable Christ.
The Spirituality of Gratitude
“Deep gratitude springs up from within,” writes pastor and bestselling Korean author Joshua Choonmin Kang. “To become truly grateful is incredibly difficult, but the difficulty of the process makes the results all the more lovely.” God invites us to enter into this world of thankfulness at every moment in our lives, even in the hard times- perhaps especially then. Pastor Kang continues: “Gratitude heals us and holds us, tethering us to one another, offering us joy and strength.” This book is the 2015 Reader’s Choice Award Winner. It consists of fifty-two short chapters that can be read daily for devotional use. So come and discover a spirituality of gratitude.
